Introducing The Ice House Lofts, Louisville’s premier downtown loft apartment development.
Founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1881 as the Schaefer-Meyer Brewing Company, the property now known as The Ice House was originally much smaller. After undergoing an ownership change and becoming the Frank Fehr Brewery, the company produced beer until the passage of Prohibition in 1919. No longer allowed to brew, the company changed its name to Merchant’s Ice & Cold Storage and began construction of a massive 13-story tower, which opened in 1920. Throughout the 1950’s and 60’s the company thrived in the ice supply and cold storage business and remained in operation until sometime in the 1990’s.
The current owners purchased the property in late 2007 and began renovations on The Ice House event space on Washington Street as well as commercial space and luxury apartments on Main Street. The event venue has been in operation since 2011 and the apartments were completed in the fall of 2016.
